The American dog tick, Dermacentor variabilis (bottom row in picture above), is the most common tick in Connecticut. Like all ticks, the dog tick goes through four life stages (egg, larva, nymph, and adult) during its development.  Although abundant, the dog tick does not carry Lyme disease, and is not consider a serious threat. It does carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
