Consider fencing for certain locations

This garden fence will keep out deer.  Eight to ten feet is usually recommended for deer fencing. However, fencing that encloses a small vegetable garden plot such as this can be as low as four feet. Deer do not like to jump into an area that feels like an enclosure.

This type of sturdy mesh fencing is practically invisible from more than 20 feet away. It is best used in an informal natural area. It will need maintenance on a regular basis to make sure it is intact.

Wire fencing is also good to deter deer. Note the use of the wood chip barrier on the side of the fence that faces the tick safe zone.
