The Target Lyme Disease Program
Since 1999, the Westport Weston Health District (WWHD) has been
working closely with the federal Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, the state Department of Public Health, the Connecticut
Agricultural Experiment Station and local community organizations to
reduce the incidence of Lyme disease among Westport and Weston
residents.
Target Lyme Disease is an educational program to teach
residents about ways to reduce the number of deer ticks and protect
themselves against Lyme disease. The goals of the program were to
reduce the incidence of Lyme disease by reducing the number of tick
bites through personal property landscaping modifications and
effective personal protection measures. Through this program, WWHD
has provided homeowners with the information necessary to control
ticks effectively while minimizing harm to the environment.
Check with your local health department for new technologies in
the fight against Lyme disease.
