Going to college this fall?  Don't wait!

Meningococcal meningitis is a bacterial infection that can infect the bloodstream or lining of the brain and spinal cord. It is easily spread through respiratory secretions and close contact with an infected person, such as kissing, sharing cigarettes, glasses or utensils.

College students have six times the risk for contracting meningitis than the average population because of the close living conditions in dormitories. Approximately 3,000 cases occur annually in Americans, resulting in 300 deaths.

The Westport Weston Health District offers meningitis vaccine to college-bound students. Call Loren Pace, RN, at 227-9571, ext. 231, to schedule an appointment.
